What is an EICR Certificate?
An EICR also called a periodic inspection report, is a comprehensive assessment of all fixed electrical wiring and equipment in a property. A qualified electrician examines:
- Consumer units (fuse boxes) and circuit breakers
- All fixed wiring, cables, and connections
- Sockets, switches, and light fittings
- Earthing and bonding arrangements
- Any visible signs of damage, deterioration, or unsafe electrical work
The report uses a standard coding system:
C1: Danger present. Immediate remedial action required.
C2: Potentially dangerous. Urgent remedial action required.
C3: Improvement recommended. Does not fail the EICR.
FI: Further investigation required.
A property is graded Satisfactory (once C1 and C2 items are resolved) or Unsatisfactory.
